Probate Administration in Friendship

When an estate already has filings, original documents or assets with uncertain ownership, the first task is to understand what each item shows—and what it does not. Dale Law Group, PLLC offers probate administration as part of its Tennessee estate-planning services. A clear record of documents, property and decision-makers can help identify the next questions to address.

Start with the record, not an assumption

A court filing may show that a matter was opened or that a document was submitted; it does not, by itself, settle who owns a particular asset or what authority applies to every decision. Likewise, a recorded land document does not guarantee clear title or identify the appropriate court procedure. Keep these questions separate: What has been filed? What does the original document say? How is the property titled? Who has authority to act?

Collect what is available before drawing conclusions: court papers and notices, the original will or trust documents, deeds, account statements and correspondence about the estate. Note which items are copies and where originals are kept. Avoid treating an agent named under a power of attorney, a court-appointed guardian or conservator, a trustee and an estate representative as interchangeable roles; the governing document or appointment matters.

    Make an estate action log

A simple action log can turn a pile of papers into a workable sequence. For each item, record the date, source, what it appears to relate to, the question it raises and the person or office to ask. Mark confirmed information separately from assumptions, and note follow-up dates without presuming a legal deadline.

    • Filing: court, case or document identifier if shown, filing date, and any notice or requested response.
    • Original documents: type, date, whether the original is located, and who currently holds it.
    • Property: asset description, named owner or title information, supporting record, and any mismatch or uncertainty.
    • Authority: person’s name, stated role, document or appointment supporting that role, and the actions it appears to cover.
    • Open question: what remains unclear, who may confirm it, and the date you checked.

Choose the next inquiry by the uncertainty

If the immediate uncertainty is whether a proceeding or document has been filed, organize the case information and seek current guidance from the appropriate court office. If the uncertainty concerns land records, identify the property and the recorded document before contacting the Register of Deeds. These are separate county contacts, not interchangeable sources: UT CTAS lists a Crockett County Clerk & Master contact and, separately, a Register of Deeds contact. The directory lists the Clerk & Master at 1 South Bells Street, Suite 5, and the Register of Deeds at 1 South Bells Street, Suite 2, Alamo, TN 38001; confirm current location and instructions before visiting. Office listings alone do not determine venue, whether probate is necessary, or what must be filed.

For an unclear ownership or authority question, bring the relevant document together with the action log rather than relying on a directory entry or a family member’s description. A power of attorney’s scope, duration and limits matter; it should not be presumed to grant every power. A filing, title record and authority document answer different questions.

      Prepare for a focused review

Dale Law Group, PLLC can assist with probate administration and related estate-planning matters. Before asking for guidance, organize the documents by date and identify the specific decision that cannot yet be made. Useful questions include: Which document or filing controls the next step? Does the record establish ownership, or is more information needed? Who is authorized to act, and for which task? Which county office can confirm a filing or record, and what information should be provided when asking?

The firm’s office is in Murfreesboro, and it serves clients in Tennessee. Friendship has a municipal directory profile, but that does not establish court jurisdiction or make the municipality a probate-records office. Use the relevant county office’s current instructions when confirming local records or contact details.

Questions to bring to the discussion

Does finding a court filing tell me who owns an estate asset?

Not necessarily. A filing and a property record serve different purposes, and neither should be treated as a complete answer to every ownership or authority question. Compare the filing, original documents and asset-specific records.

Which Crockett County office should I contact first?

It depends on the question. The county has separately listed court-office and Register of Deeds contacts. Identify whether you are asking about a court filing or a land record, then confirm the current contact details and instructions before visiting.
